I haven't been using my camera recently. I completely forgot today, even though we looked absolutely smashing this morning in our lovely ceremonial dress.
[INTERRUPTION: Drew has just informed me hockey boys won ! GRATS :D And apparently Crestwood had 2 state rep players too :) yaaay ]
This morning, I got to school at 7am because we were supposed to have flag party practice. To my utter annoyance, who were supposed to arrive at the same time arrived > 30 mins later. Man. TT_TT; What gay. I'm actually really grumpy in the morning when I don't get enough sleep. Bah. That aside, I spent the morning chatting to random cadets and playing with Davo's shiny sword, oh and practicing with flags when the flag people came. CHEERS TO THOSE WHO CAME EARLY- I was in good company. D: Right. Nothing in my mind is in chronological order right now, I can't think properly about what happened this morning.
SKIP TO ASSEMBLY. Gosh. My neck hurt so much after sitting stiffly on the side of the hall. I just had this perfect view of the 5 guardy people at the front and ALAN & HTL . XD Good job to everyone EXCEPT CLAY (jkjk) WHO HIT BAHAVEN ON THE HEAD AND SNORTED LOUDLY ON STAGE. I swear, her facial expression walking off stage 10 seconds after the snort was so calm and ... expressionless I thought the snort had come from someone else... (I actually thought Pratima snorted lol) Christine Lay is the best free source of entertainment one will ever have.
After the assembly, I rushed off to my SRC/Prefects fete meeting TT__TT: and then was called out of it by Ambert because I was expected at the Cadet Luncheon (?! I had no idea I'm a part of that). And thats where I ate lunch with dessert. :) So many different types of sandwiches. I wish I got to have more. But I didn't because someone suggested that we should move out and pack up :( even though we had orders to finish everything D: Yeaah. While I was committing myself to some womanly duties (that Lee also partook in- putting dishes/cups in the dishwasher) the ladies from the mothers club/fete committee called me over to take a good look at our snazzy uniform.
I swear its the red sash. I never used to get so much attention from other people's mothers ;) Haha. Using my PRO (lol) Canto skills, I explained to them why we had different uniforms in cadets. One of the mothers described our DPCU cams as *honghongloklok* (red red green green) D: AND I WAS MORTIFIED. The first picture that came to my mind was a Christmas elf doing the can can with a candy cane D:
After foodfest came lunch, where I changed and joined 3 friends on a small journey to Epping where we ate and drank our lives away. No. We just bummed in GJ while eating Winnie's Pedro's Pizza for a couple of hours undertaking chitchat which I haven't experienced in quite a while. I miss it. We used to have chats liek that EVERYDAY when we sat in the canteen during recesses and lunches. I miss alot of things from junior school. I miss how it used to be funny when Michael (Liu) and Marcus pretended to be fobs for an entired period during VA. I used to find it so hilarious D: But now seeing fobs is like an everyday thing (lol Chris) and it's not that funny anymore.
Oops. Totally went off track. ANYWAY. I stayed in Epping until about 4.34 D: cos that's when my bus came, but my mum thinks I got home at 4pm (OUR CLOCK STOPPED WORKING LOL) so I'm not busted or anything like that. Watched ABCKIDS/ROLLERCOASTER ♥ and FELL ASLEEP DURING SIMPSONS AND WOKE UP MORE THAN HALFWAY THROUGH NEIGHBOURS. OMG.
[interruption: for people in my eco class. I heard on the grapevine (Lucy- HI! I know you read this xD) that dunkerly might be coming back and might be taking the class back. Which I am exuberantly happy about. Because I feel less bored in class and hopefully perform better in economics]
That's about all I wanted to say about what happened today.
Now, onto a different broader subject. The following may seem controversial but whatever. DROUGHT. Look, even if you care about the topic, there's not much you can do about it. WHY OVER-WORRY WHEN YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT except reduce the amount of water you use at home, make sure taps don't leak. Yeah sure I care about it. I don't want us to run out of water. But really, AT THE MOMENT? It's been bloody pouring on and off for the past 24 hours- I think we can forget about the drought for the time being. I mean, have you heard? Canberra's haul of wine grapes aren't that bad this season. I'm actually wishing for good weather now. Since I've been home, I've been feeling lethargic, my nose is blocked and I have a fever. I believe I have a cold from that stupid weather we've had all day.
Yeah okay, the drought topic set me up in a bad mood combined with blocked nose. Because I can't do anything about it, I feel annoyed and pissed off- and I really wish I could just *click* and disapparate the drought away, BUT I CAN'T. It's a controversial topic anyway. I mean, the people who use to most amount of water are farmers anyway, so why don't you go pester them about using less water. So please don't expect to read about anything in this blog that will affect >5 people. I care about the state, but not in this blog.

REMINDER TO ALL CITIZENS OF THE SCHOOL: Mufti this Friday. Bring in a platter of baked goods. Okay. This frustrates me. What the hell is the school doing? Practically demanding us to BAKE stuff for the fete? What the hell. I DON'T WANT TO BAKE. I've spent so much time and effort into the organisation of stuff going on in the fete already, and everyone's fully sick of it and the school being ridiculous. Mufti days in exchange for cake and presents or $5. Freaaaking hell.
Honestly. I don't see why we have to alway focus on "profits" at school. The canteen rakes in so much every year. Will it REALLY hurt to lower prices a tad? I mean. When I lived on my measley income, I did not receive an extra allowance from my parents and at home, we don't have packed lunches waiting for us in the morning and as a result of that, I spent quite alot of money in a week at the canteen. I visit other schools and their canteens DON'T RIP STUDENTS OFF. And now I'm poor. With no employment, means no income. No income means reliance on parents, and I haven't asked my parents for spending money for over a year and IT FEELS REALLY AWKWARD WHEN I DO. As a result, I don't have much money in my wallet MEANING I FEEL LESS COMPELLED to buy food from the canteen. And I starve until I go home and gorge on whatever left overs I can find in the fridge at home.
During exam week, due to expensiveness of food, stress and nausea I didn't eat much and my weight dropped noticeably. I don't like our school canteen. I wish we had a woolworths opposite the school. Canteen would so go out of business so quickly. I'd love to see that happen. I'd also like to see the uniform shop go out of business. Selling uniform at freaking ridiculous private school prices D: You buy that stuff in BULK from BANGLADESH. HONESTLY, how much will that seriously add up to? And how much do they make us pay. T_T:
I'm angry. The money making side of our school sucks. Leeching off students is a horrible thing to do.
This leads me to another rant. Since private schools leech of students so much already, why do they require govt funding when public schools exhibit the obvious cases of poverty and such. Many primary schools still use demountables, and have broken and old furniture that the kids are forced to use everyday. Compared to a private school with their private undercover pools which cost tonnes for management, public schools are a dump. With exception of our school of course. NGAARR Such an irritating topic. I don't get why the govt allocates so much to private schools. It's not fair.
Maybe I'm just being a stingy asian. Maybe its the recession. I hear about it every day on the news. Global recession. Falling employment rates. Lowering of interest rates. IMF. OECD. It's driving me nuts. Freaking America and their low interest rates dragged the whole world into this. Freaking subprime mortgage prices. FREAKING EXECUTIVES WHO ARE GETTING BONUS PAYMENTS EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE BEING BAILED BY THE GOVT. Being rewarded for failure? Honestly? I want to smack those execs good. If you had a heart, you would know you DON'T DESERVE so much. Infact, you don't deserve much at all. Axing people's jobs because you can't afford to pay them, yet you get freaking 6 figure bonuses.
They say you can't buy happiness with money. But that's not true. Deep down inside we all know that without money.. well, we're pretty much screwed.
9 counterattacks:
not enough support from the community for the fete, which is a shame. wonder how saturday will turn out to be,
YAY MUFTI
i'm pretty sure they don't want the cookies i bake - considering how i've never baked cookies and the first time i ever baked anything was @ baulko for food tech (which i might add, is not offered in ruse) hehe
i'm really worried saturday will turn out bad..=( but i shall do my part in the crafts and chocolate wheel store ^_^ oh, and sing beautifully as well xD
"why do they require govt funding when public schools"
"I don't get why the govt allocates so much to private schools. It's not fair."
Cos Private Schools > Public Schools... XD... Dunno to be honest though, probably due to capitalism...
"Compared to a private school with their private undercover pools which cost tonnes for management"... It doesn't cost that much for management of our school pool and plus I think most, if not all the costs involved are compensated by swim lessons held for Primary School students. Although we are getting a new gym in a few years (not in my time unfortunately =(.. but I would never use it, so it's a win-win situation)
"They say you can't buy happiness with money. But that's not true." It IS true.... "without money.. well, we're pretty much screwed." I don't feel that is the case.
About the private schools thing:
quote:
"This leads me to another rant. Since private schools leech of students so much already, why do they require govt funding when public schools exhibit the obvious cases of poverty and such. Many primary schools still use demountables, and have broken and old furniture that the kids are forced to use everyday. Actually it is kind of both fair and unfair. When you seriously look at it the kids that come from public schools are less likely to be academically superior than those from private kids. Yes many of them are smart, but they're disadvantaged by their low socioeconomic background and chances are that even if you do sink money into them they're not going to reap a return as high as what you would if you sank money into a private kid. To put it in a simple analogy the government is hedging its bets not only by putting money on where its sure to get a return but also one that will reap in the election dollars.
As for what you hear on the news - its all hype. Ignore them and analyse it yourself. News channels have a way of sensationalising things and taking things out of context. Sure u/e rates are going to be 7% but globally speaking we're actually quite well off, something the sensationalists at the Telegraph, channel nine, seven and ten fail to pick up.
America might pick up part of the blame but you really shouldn't pin all the blame on them. If anything is to blame is human nature itself - greed. And even if the executives are getting bonus payments do remember some AIG executives have returned their bonuses (part of) and these were part of their contracts (if not then the loophole from congress is to blame). Also, those executives don't really have a heart at all - to be motivated to drag AIG out of the financial doldrums those execs need to be motivated - with money.
As for money not being able to buy happiness, that's not true. If someone killed your entire family and offered you 10 billion would be happy?
Hi akatsuki
Nice way to describe the Daily Terrorgraph; sensationalist. Hahas
Like when some train "nudged" itself off the track once upon a time, and it had some headline "Train terror."
holy....moly...tim's post. tl;dr much?
though in short with all the money things, it ticks me off as well with how the school is going. Just be glad we don't have to put up with this sh@$^ after this year.
To share a quote about money: Money is the root of all evil. If you have no money, society will scorn you. So...the less evil you have, the more people will hate you. Welcome to earth.
Which makes a perfect segue!
I declare this whole world is in a____ [finish it off here people xD]
The King's School blazer literally costs like $1000...
So I don't mind our blazer that much. Besides, our wool blazer seems unique and is quite comfortable. Everything else is quite rip but nothing you can do. You can always buy similar uniforms at other shops.
akatsuki makes very good points in that it is true that they are reaping the rewards of increased funding in private schools. Research has shown private school students parents pay for taxes to the government and private school students generally pay more taxes when they start working. Also, I know people love to diss AIG but you should be abit more objective too. One of the major issues is that bonuses are listed in their contracts and that bonuses make up the majority of their incomes. Without her bonus, Mum would make quite a fairly normal salary. The way you reward/punish executives is through share distribution. Contracts usually reward executives with a large number of shares that can't be sold within the next 5 years and also if your company fails, your shares become worthless. If an executive performs well, the shares increase in value and in 5 years time, they can be sold for lots of moolah =)
School can go screw themselves if they want a cake out of me. And with something like drought, I wish I could say I help conserve water but I take 2 15min showers every day and my parents removed our water saving tap on purpose.
hehe. My cake deflated, because i put it onto a plate with steep edges...
and the thing is, I LABELLED THE PLATE WITH MY NAME :O So now they know who made it =(
Tim: "As for money not being able to buy happiness, that's not true. If someone killed your entire family and offered you 10 billion would be happy?"
no.
@ Rex: NOT ENOUGH SUPPORT?! I'm going to be there from about 9.30 am till the end rostered for stuff. :( Ima die tomorrow
