WHAT I AM LOVING RIGHT NOW
- Cabramatta
I LOVE this place. It's full of FOOD. Meat, bread, pastry, fruit, PHO! My goodness. It's freaking awesome. When I was a kid, we went to Cabra every week for PHO (PHO BAY FTW :) and we'd buy fruit- because honestly, where else would you find durian and dragon fruit every week of the year :) and awesomely super ripe sugar bananas. Damn I love this place. Smells of overripe fruit (over ripe.. not rotten :D). I often say "I LOVE CABRA" and people are like.. woooahh. e.g.
B: :D I ATE PHO TODAY.
X: WHERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO EAT PHO
B: Why Cabra of course!
X: WHAT?! BUT THAT PLACE IS FULL OF GANGSTERS & DRUGS
PSH. GO SUCK A FART OR WHATEVER DOOG WOULD SAY.
Honestly, finding good pho > badass gangsters.
Besides, the gangsters only pop up at night. ALL the times I've been in Cabra I've seen 2 bad things happen. One was some random guy running through the streets and a couple of guys chasing him- pick pocket I think. And um the other one was just a bad driver who decided to decorate another car with plenty of scratches. BUT THAT'S IT.
My dad says he's seen drugs, but oh boo hoo. I've seen drug deals been done in the bathroom of sussex centre and also in Manly (question is: why bathrooms? no sec cameras?)
Nothing bad has ever happened to me in Cabra.
X: I'm too scared to go to Cabra. I might get mugged.
B: Sucks to be you :) (you paranoid little squirt)
- 85 Degrees
HELLO?! EVERYONE KNOWS I LOVE THIS PLACE. At the mo, I've tried the majority of the cakes, still exploring the breads and I haven't touched the coffees/teas. But that's only because I don't drink coffee (D: KEEPS ME UP SO LATE) or tea (except during yumcha). Man. Their cake range is just amazing. Their cheesecakes are amazing. My goodness. If you are a fan of TANGY, SHARP, natural strawberry flavours (and yoghurt) I suggest you try the STRAWBERRY CARDINA :) It's so fab. I love it.
The flavour it so vibrant and it made me go O_O! Hehe. It tastes of cheefulness and will make one feel content upon finishing (if not begging for moaaar). Strawberry tiramisu is also good, however it's more on the sweet side.
BREAD: MELON BREAD. The gay thing about 85 deg in the city is that THEY HAVE NO BREAD. Which is depressing. I think I like the bread more than the cake (but not the Strawberry Cardina). Basically Melon Bread is the ginormous version of a Pineapple bun (bor lor bao) you might find at some normal asian bakery. Chris Au knows how much I love this stuff. It's SO much fluffier & sweeter than normal pineapple buns (though the ones at St Honours are pretty good. Hehe Eddy. I love that place. They MASS make bread- bought another shop across the corridor because they didn't have enough room to put their machines!). I tried a few different t ypes of bread on Saturday afternoon. The black one. Bahaha. Of all the time I walked into the cafe, I never, NEVER EVER picked the black bread, because it looked so intimidating. BLACK! But I bought it yesterday and by golly gosh, it's so flavoursome. DOES NOT TASTE BURNT AT ALL. It's quite garlicky.
(Furry toe: I know what I'm picky about now. herbs.)
I DISLIKE EATING GARLIC. WHENEVER I EAT IT I FEEL LIKE IT STAYS IN MY SYSTEM FOR A VERY LONG TIME. Say for a week or so? I feel l ike I can smell it everywhere I go D: So I never eat it XD
However, this did not happen with the Calamari bread (the black bread). I am quite glad. It was really soft as well :D:D
I also tried the rose/cheese bread. Didn't eat this until today , and my gosh, it's quite awesome. Especially for those who love cream cheese. Basically its a sweet bun with a layer or very very light rose-flavoured bread (I say very light because I couldn't taste it but I could see the pinky colour in the bread, and I could smell it abit) and a wad of cream cheese in the middle.
The flavour is simply GORGEOUS. If I were a piece of toast, I'd marry this and have beautiful cream cheese babies. Awesome.
Also tried another bun but I forgot what it was called. It had some seeds on the top.. and that was it. Quite plain, but I liked it. Ate it during musical. I didn't stop eating during musical. Bahaha!
There was also this thick toasty thing. My sister loved this, but I thought we got jipped. Basically white loaf of bread that has been dosed with a honey-like substance and baked till brown + butter. But she liked it so I guess it's worth it :) It's just like thick toast. Very soft on the inside.
DIGRESSING FROM THIS SUBJECT OF WHAT I LOVE,
I finally found the cafe that sells the cake I got as a gift once. Remember back in the days I was employed as a student tutor, one student's parents showered me with gifts of fruit, korean junk food and cake? I fell inlove with the cake and posted it on this blog someplace. The box said "Pattison's Patisserie Fine Bakery" and I was puzzled because I had never heard of the place. Because I'm retarded and slow, it never occurred to me to search the place up on google ==; BUT I FINALLY FOUND THE PLACE - no google, no cheating. It's in Chatswood! ITS SUCH A FINE CAFE. Unfortunately I was in a rush to get back to the hole, Carlingford to watch the school musical, otherwise I would have sat down to eat a slice of whatever the cake of the day was + a hot chocolate or something. *-*
However I believe that cake triggered some sort of allergic reaction.
Completely worth it though. OH I FOUND THE PICS
***
I have this unhealthy obsession with chocolate, cream and coke.
Whenever we have whipped cream (the one that comes in the aerosol can) I always spray heaps into my mug of Milo or something and sprinkle cocoa on top and eat it *yum* When I eat up all the cream, I repeat the same process until I remember I have to leave some for other people.
When someone opens a pack of chocolate I just eat and eat and eat. I'm sure many of you have this problem too, so I don't need to explain myself. I am aware of my problem with chocolate. And I am also aware that I once I start I can't stop. So i try not to start :)
Coke. UNHEALTHY. TOTALLY DISGUSTINGLY UNHEALTHY, but I love it anyway. I am in no way healthy at all. Infact, I despise healthy. The green & orangeness of various vegetables makes me sick. I gorge on browns, yellows and more browns. lol. D: WHY DOES IT SOUND LIKE DIARRHOEA?!
I love coke so much I can tell the difference between Coca-Cola and gay no frills coke. At har mm cha *arvo tea restaurants, I always order lemon coke (basically coke + 3-6 slices of lemons, lemons are as healthy as I get) and I HATE IT WHEN THOSE EVIL PEOPLE BEHIND THE COUNTER FEED ME NO FRILLS COKE INSTEAD OF COCA COLA. It tastes so cheap.
But I still order it, because I'm hooked. ==;
Speaking of hooked, when I was a kid (dayum I say this alot.) I used to be hooked on JELLY TOTS. In Parra Westfield, they used to have a Copenhaagen on the 5th floor (i think :/ I don't remember being able to read back then . bahaha) and it was located in the middle, where you can walk all around the shop. At the back, there'd be THREE dispensers. One would have nuts in it, the other chocolate sprinkes and the last one, jelly tots.
My mum RARELY ever bought me a cone, so I would never get the chance to play with the dispensers and eat the jelly tots. HOWEVER, there was this megahugeass metal plate thing that caught all the jellytots/nuts/chocolate sprinkles when they missed the cones. I would always, ALWAYS pick up all the little jelly tot pieces that may have missed the cone :) Yum.
Now that I can afford it, I can't find shops that sell jelly tots. :( Btw, jelly tots are like mini jubes, but better. Because of the surface area ratio thingo. more sugar :D
I also love the Allens strawberries and cream and no frills milk bottles :D
I love milk bottles. Bahaha. And No Frills makes them extra sweet :)
THINGS TO DO THIS YEAR
- Find Jelly Tots
- Go to Guylian Cafe
- Go to Lindt Cafe
- Go to Pattison's Patisserie
- Finish exploring the cake & bread range @ 85 Degrees
- (maybe not this year but) buy a DSLR to take high quality photos of people and my most beloved food.
- Find a job after HSC to support my expensive (but very satisfying hobby).
Geebus.
This post has been ALL ABOUT FOOD D: I FEEL LIKE SUCH A GREEDY LITTLE PIG.
But guess what...
IT FEELS WAY GOOD!
9 counterattacks:
strawberries and cream! no frills milk bottles! i thought i was the only one!
wow i take back what i said :P
you do love your food heaps.
Um. I never been to 85 whatever. Barely even heard of it.
Apparently it's actually quite easy to tell different Cola bottling plants from one another/Coke by region. Especially in America. And America's Pepsi and Mountain dew made a "retro" product where they sweetened with cane sugar and apparently it's REALLY good.
... wait. What? Durian?! My old enemy, we meet again...
Haha....i hope i wasnt the "little squirt" in your blog :p
Pattisons is a franchise Belle! Theres one at Hornsby Westfield on the ground floor next to Woolworths!
Oh...as well as the one on the food court at Chatswood Chase...
DId you know they just opened 60 new shops at Chatswood Chase! I only found out after we got lost there.....and i never get lost there.....
Durians are grosss...
And dragon fruit are ok.
I love garlic XD
Btw, you sound so fat in those post...
Can't believe all you haters, I love durian. I never even thought it smelt bad to start with, but I'm probably alone on that.
No frills lollies are actually really good, winnie won't buy any other brand of gummi-bears. No frills are sweeter, softer, and really, what else do you look for in a gummi-bear?
Some parting advice gathered from my short interim at Michel's - never buy the cake of the day anywhere.
@ Shaun: do not assume that one will be mugged upon visiting Cabra. It's freaking awesome. I can spend little and eat lots there. I love it.
Who is DG?
@ Jero + Lee-Anne; no frills MILK BOTTLES = awesome. For gummi bears, I go to Aldi :D
@ Jason: I don't like durian either. My mum likes it. I just like the shape. bahaha so prickly and exotic looking. Unlike brown pears which look like little turds.
CABRA'S SAFE! ALL THAT DRUG CRAP WAS LIKE A DECADE AGO. STOP LIVING UNDER A ROCK! D:
:D YEAH
