Hi everyone,
Shaun and 3 other people are currently at Lé Montage confirming things for our formal in November. (all of a sudden, it doesn't seem so far away) He asked me before he left if I could blog about it after I read the info/acquire photos from his expedition, and I said yes, so my next post (tonight? tomorrow night?) will be about Lé Montage. I'm a bit excited- looking forward to the photos, but I have a sinking feeling- telling me not to expect much. After all, other schools went there for their yr 10 formal.
We should have all voted for Cockle Bay. The location is much nicer, and taking photos outside would also be quite nice (office buildings, skyscrapers, twinkly lights, bridge and water). But I guess it's too late to change.
Back then, when we voted for the locations, I had no idea that place was called Cockle Bay. I just thought it was Darling Harbour. Gay. I'm sure I'm not the only one though. :( Oh well.
I was reading some finalist entries for the Aus Youth Week writing comp (Michelle's short story was one). Biggest grats to her :) Such a wonderful achievement. Her story was really nice too. It's really Michelle-like.
Anypoos, I started reading the other people's stories and they are quite impressive. I really like Decay, written by Brenton Cassidy. The style of writing is just so captivating. XD I feel like I haven't read anything real in a long time. It's just been newspapers, magazines, subtitles and blogs for me (oh and Hamlet study guides).
I love books that are deep and don't have much romance in them. Not too much action, but it still needs to be there. A story with a twist or two; once in the middle and once at the end is super. I love books that make me go "holy crap. definitely was not expecting that". :D Unpredictability & spontaneity ftw!
Digressing,
Today, I over heard Bryan and James talking about how television has become crappy nowadays. I have to agree, but also sort of disagree?
I can spend hours complaining about the lack of quality cartoons that exist on ABC kids nowadays. When I was a kid, I used to be able to watch tv from 3-6 because they were so good. Now, some of the shows are so retarded I have to change to some ridiculous channel like 9 and watch something only a little bit better.
Reality shows like "America's next top model" and shows like "Biggest Loser" really puts me off. People actually want to watch anorexic/bulimic girls scratch each other's eyes out metaphorically and literally? and watching obese people gradually become less obese? D: Even Neighbours is offputting now. It's that stupid exchange student who doesn't seem like she's on exchange at all. She's in the starting credits now, so it's obvious she's going to be sticking around for a while.
Normally, I'd be celebrating if there was an asian represent in some kind of tv show I really dig. But her... she has got to be the worst candidate for a tv show. Yes. She looks ridiculous. Her accent is ridiculous. SHE is just freaking ridiculous. She can't act. It's agonising. So I'm not watching it for now.
*shock horror* After being a dedicated follower for so many years, I started seeing similar patterns in the plot and themes and issues are recycled every now and then. Dayum. Neighbours was so much better a couple of character deaths before now. People like Stingray, Janae, Boyd, Summer (goodness, where is she now?) Serena, her parents... You know how they killed off Serena and her family?
They died in a plane crash.
Wowee way to end a character's life ==;
Teen pregnancy- A couple of years ago with Skye... Now with Bridget. 8-)
I think I'll stick with hilarious US tv shows. Like big bang theory of himym. And awesome crime shows like NCIS, 24 (OMG @ THE SEASON FINALE. JACK BAUER DOESNT DIE RIGHT?), not so much CSI, but definately all the Law and Orders.
mmmm. After exams (trials).. or HSC, I'm going to watch all of ONE TREE HILL in HQ. Then I'll watch gossip girl, and rewatch Gilmore Girls and goodess...so much stuff to watch.
Math test tomorrow. Church Service tomorrow.
OH! Regarding religious services... can someone tell me what comparative is like? Anyone know who the guest is tomorrow? I want to learn more about the origins & history of some religions- however I'm not looking to be brainwashed or sitting through and hour long talk where some dude tries to sell the religion to us. I just want a history lesson :)
byee
p.s got the financial review today because I rocked up to the bus stop 15 mins early and had nothing to do :O

8 counterattacks:
Dockside group (Cockle Bay) has a shocking reputation on BoS and from schools who went there - eg NSG Year 12 formal '04.
The food was meant to be crap as well.
Supposedly they're good for weddings etc, but they don't take school formals seriously.
woah that's what happened to Serena?! What a lame ending. I was wondering why she hasn't been around for ages..
I'll probably start watching again when I'm bored after HSC.
Comparative's usually ok. It's never anything like 'CONVERT TO THIS' - it's usually a speaker talking about either the history of the religion, its main beliefs and what they've gained from it.
The fun starts when people ask questions.

i'd heartily recommend "Chuck"

Third season being written for next year
=D
Apparently, the original Masterchef (British) is much better than the cureent, with a lot more focus on the food and less on participant relationships, personality etc. etc.
I heartily endorse meelo's suggestion. :D
And I wouldn't know anything about th quality of television, I haven't actually watched it for a very long time now. Although chaser is back on tv, dunno if I can be bothered to watch it on tv, or just download the podcast xD
God, that asian chick on neighbours is a freak.
And you're right. There really is nothing good on TV, but it happens to be one of my crutches. So I end up wasting hours watching complete crap.
I liked America's next top model though, those girls trying to outbitch each other every week. It was awesome. And i can't believe you watch 24. My parents used to waaay back in season 1. Hated it then, hate it now ;D
My mum loves 24 and prisonbreak.
Both places suck for formal. People should of voted for that castle place. Look so nice. It was different. Unlike Le Montage...
I only watch the finale of the biggest loser. Cauz it's the only good episode every season. The rest of the season is filled with ppl bitching or sweating...
And ewww at One Tree Hill.
I think I'll try comparative tomorrow. Sounds interesting and I've never been before.
i will flee to my japanese satellite tv when i get my moneys. wahahah
australian tv is just either crap or just US shows/remakes. US shows you watch it before it appears on AusTV anyway.
@ Jason: castle - crap.
and so is Le Montage. Taronga was cool
Aussie soapies like Neighbours and Home and Away copy each other all the time. They're like the same story set at different places. Whenever I see an add for one about a big disaster like a fire, the other one will soon advertise the same story line.
If you like forensics stuff with the right dose of police-work, wit and awesomeness, watch Bones. NCIS is good too.
